Today is a special day. The Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation was formed 4 years ago today to support anyone affected by vasculitis. It was formed on the eve of Lauren’s funeral in 2010 and only 6 days after she lost her battle with GPA Vasculitis at 15 years old. We are incredibly proud of what her charity has achieved through our supporters, friends and family. Over £300,000 raised is an incredible achievement and was made possible through personal and corporate donations, events held by supporters and at 11 awareness events held by the charity since 2010. Earlier this month, the Duntrune Trekkers climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to support our work with vasculitis and took awareness to new heights.

The charity has gone on to fund research studies in vasculitis with the University of Aberdeen, clinical trials with Great Ormond Street Hospital and dedicated free support services for patients through our website. The charity has orchestrated national awareness with Heart FM and reached out to over 1m members of the public to heighten the profile of the disease. The charity has also sponsored symposium events as well as directing live guidance webcasts for the Renal Association and the British Society for Rheumatology. In doing so, it is has raised the profile within the medical community and supplied vital guidance to trainee doctors, consultants and allied health professionals. In 2013 the charity set up its own video channel within the website and has had over 96,000 video hits internationally since it was launched. The channel was supported by an awareness video on vasculitis produced for the charity and presented by TV doctor and charity patron, Dr Hilary Jones.

And in 2014, we launched the Twilight Cabin to give patients and their families a well earned break and respite. In 7 months, we have welcomed 27 patients to our respite cabin on the shores of Loch Awe.
